Time Hardens

I’m here to say farewell

To an old friend of a friend

I never really knew him

But came here anyway

He died a year ago

Of cancer, did you know?

I couldn’t spare a moment

At that so sad time

Here, today too late

To honor him I came

Shaped a plastic hour

From granite of eternity

Time hardens fast

From being “what, today?”

Crystallizes around us

Into what we have become

Into the person I now am.
