I have been a pacifist from childhood. Perhaps because amongst my earliest memories is visiting grandmother's home and passing through an industrial city with mile after mile of rubble from war bombed houses.....inspiration for The Wisdom of Man.....see visuals of similar scenes in the Movies 'Judgement at Nurenburg', or 'The Third Man' (set in post WW II Vienna).
Perhaps peace is not always our choice or preference, but so often war is depicted as glorious when there ought to be an abhorrence at what we find inside ourselves. My heroes are Christ healing a hacked off ear and Ghandi in passive resistance to oppression. Pacifism comes with a cost, takes courage for those who live it, and perhaps war is the easier option.
