History is related to time and people. I was taught many years ago to regard history as a series of political events and wars but fortunately managed to break free of this to see beyond a very limited perspective into something a lot more murky.
The catalog of politics and war is ultimately sterile because that kind of history is very naturally written by the victors, with a very different underlying folk truth that passes from history into legend ......and that is where truth and fiction meet the past. We like that kind of history, the story we really always wanted to hear in place of the truth......the mythical archetype of the warrior-hero and princess; Cinderella and Prince Charming..the story of Robin Hood and Maid Marion...or more recently the adventures of Rambo.
