Epistemology

Thinking ‘bout six senses

Natural five plus mystery sixth

Sight, sound, smell, touch, taste

And the mystery one I call emote

Swimming through life’s soup

My own five honest serving men

Reaching out into the stuff of physics

Tell a lot to me of what’s around

Intruding thought that quietly asks

“What if there’s much more the five

Just are not able to reveal

Still hidden and invisible to mind?”

Then again, there’s psychic, physic

Two different kind of stuff out there

First transcendent then mundane

Not the same, we have believed

This transcendent bit is different

Not sense-able to my five

Takes emote to know, yet

Knowing, knows but cannot show.

Here’s that intruding thought again

“What if emote is like the five

Not special, set apart –

No transcendent, just mundane?”

That asks a bigger question yet.

“Atoms, building blocks of life,

Just how did your stuff come to be,

why do you exist at all?
