Detritus

Another pathway, this

Slashed across the earth

In a raw brown swath

By powerful earthmovers

Just as they left it

Doesn't go anywhere;

It merely is there.

Up one end

An abandoned vehicle

Decaying in some bushes

Pink paint shyly peeking through

Here beside a thriving palm

Broken up pallet

Some concrete blocks

A length of hose

All home to a tortoiseshell tabby

Down here a few paces

Two abandoned trailers

Put to use as storage sheds

Here's an old mattress leaning

Alongside a rusting iron bed

With miscellaneous discarded clutter

Out of sight from the house

Brave home for so much

Environmental consciousness

Lurks this dark side

Ambushing our

Clean new world
