C
Cancer, the plague of the age
Lays over our lives
In a blanket of unease
Taste our fear, see it in each other’s eyes
Just mention the C word
How it grip our minds
No – it’s not new
Been around a long long time
But then again, today’s news
Brought carelessly to my mailbox
From a dear, beloved friend
Cancer tolls the knell of parting ways
Shall I ever see again
Or laugh with you, dear friend?
What does your future hold,
Beyond much anguish?
